As fears about Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) spread in the DC region, we at Cookology would like to assure everyone that the health and safety of our clients and staff have always been our top priority. At both our Dulles Town Center and Ballston Quarter locations, we adhere to the strict regulations and food safety plans established by the Virginia Department of Health.

We are actively monitoring the latest information from reputable sources about how COVID-19 spreads. At this time, there is no evidence that the disease is transmitted through food, according to the Centers of Disease Control & Prevention (CDC). Below is the latest information from the CDC:

  • Current symptoms reported for patients with COVID-19 have included mild to severe respiratory illness with fever, cough, and difficulty breathing. Coronaviruses are generally thought to be spread from person-to-person through respiratory droplets. Currently there is no evidence to support transmission of COVID-19 associated with food.
  • It may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes, but this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads.
  • In general, because of poor survivability of these coronaviruses on surfaces, there is likely very low risk of spread from food products or packaging that are shipped over a period of days or weeks at ambient, refrigerated, or frozen temperatures

We also follow guidance from the industry’s leading food safety training and certification program, ServSafe, such as sending employees home when they are sick, and regularly cleaning and disinfecting objects and surfaces that are commonly touched. Some additional practices we have put in place include:

  • Providing hand sanitizer in addition to access to sinks for handwashing.
  • Providing disposable napkins or tissues to use when coughing or sneezing.

We have temporarily changed our class cancellation policy for customers who have symptoms of respiratory illness or fever. For refunds, cancellations must take place seven days in advance. Cancellations within seven days of the class will be eligible for a class credit. This change in the cancellation policy will be in place until further notice.
