Sterling Women Social Media Information

Thanks to those of you who joined us for today’s Sterling Women in Business luncheon. Here are a few excerpts from my speech in case you weren’t able to catch all the details.

We’ll be following up with additional info, tips, and how-tos for all those who signed up for our social media mailing list. If you didn’t get a chance to sign up and would like to be involved please email us add your name, company, and Twitter handle if you have one.

If you have any thoughts about today’s luncheon or meeting feel free to share them on Twitter using hashtag #sterlingwomen! Also feel free to connect with Cookology on Facebook for additional updates.

At Cookology right now we have more than 3,300 Facebook fans and more than 700 twitter followers. We dominate in our cooking school market for social media. We write content to reach people through these social media outlets.

Twitter makes its content searchable on Google and other search engines. You can follow people in similar businesses and industries, or those who have the same interests and hobbies. This is a great way to create a network within your niche.

Did you know your Twitter profile and tweets can show up in a Google search page, which moves your personal or business profile up the Google search engine food chain? For example: if people are trying to search for cooking classes and we talk about cooking classes in our tweets, we are more likely to be one of the first results you see in Google if you search Northern Virginia cooking classes.

People in our community who are bloggers write interesting content then tweet about it. Some do it so well that I know one woman who lives in Middleburg who gets paid to tweet about using certain products when she’s cooking with them. Today it’s no longer just about the blogger who’s writing content and getting ad dollars, it’s the bonus they get of getting paid to tweet about a product – they’ve already written about in the first place!

How many of you are in industries that you dominate in your market? Or how many of you utilize social media more than your competitors and dominate the social media space for your business? If you don’t, you should be thinking about how many followers you can amass on twitter to become a go-to for your customers, or even journalists, or to make companies want to pay you to advertise their products.

So why do you want to do this?

Because via my 766 followers, I am now sharing your handle with my followers when I retweet, #hashtag, or #FF your handle, then my followers who might never have heard of you will look you up and decide to follow you or retweet your content. The goal is to make your content on twitter viral in the Twitterverse.

And the best part about it is that it’s free marketing.

Every month at Sterling Women we should all be tweeting updates from the event and sharing each others content with the hashtag #sterlingwomen.

Here are a couple of hints to make content viral: When you tweet make sure you tweet something connected to content you’ve written on your blog or website, or retweet something that is related to your business or personal hobbies. It’s a good way to get your customers/followers to retweet your content, sharing it with others, which just might make your content viral.

If you have any questions for me regarding social media, marketing, Cookology, or anything else I addressed in my speech today please feel free to email me. I look forward to seeing you in again in the new year!
