Recipe: Baked Penne Pasta with Spicy Italian Sausage, Fresh Basil, and Garlic Tomato Cream Sauce

Still searching for a simple meal to impress your lover tonight? This baked pasta dish is decadent and delicious. Try it paired with Pinot Grigio or another crisp white wine with good acidity.

INGREDIENTS

8 oz. sausage

1 cup cooked penne pasta

8 oz heavy cream

2 leaves basil, minced

1 stem fresh thyme, minced

2 cloves garlic, minced

1/4 cup shredded Parmesan

1/4 tsp smoked paprika

1/4 tsp chili powder

1/4 onion, sliced

1/4 pepper, diced

2 tbsp tomato paste

2 tbsp butter

DIRECTIONS

Place butter in sauté pan and place over medium high heat. Once hot, add the onions and peppers and cook for 2 minutes. Next, add the sausage and cook for and additional 5 minutes or until the sausage has browned. Add the cream, basil, thyme, garlic, tomato paste, Parmesan, chili powder, paprika, and pasta and toss well to combine. Cover with mozzarella and bake at 400 degrees for 8 minutes. Serve with freshly grated Parmesan and additional fresh herbs.

    Hello im interested in makeing this pasta dish but it doesnt say how much sausage to use? can you help me please

      Hi Bob, We used about 8 oz. of sausage for this recipe. You can use more or less depending on your taste. Let us know if you have any additional questions. Happy cooking!
